Pharmaceutical Biotechnology applies the principles and advanced methodologies of modern molecular biology to design, develop and manufacture biopharmaceutical products by leveraging living organisms such as bacteria, yeast and mammalian cells. In Greece, where the pharmaceutical industry plays a pivotal role in the national economy, the focus has traditionally been on producing small-molecule drugs through chemical synthesis. However, in recent years, there has been a rapid surge of interest in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology. This growing demand highlights the urgent need for specialised training to equip professionals with the necessary expertise in the field. The Professional PGMP "Pharmaceutical Biotechnology" has been specifically designed to address this need and is the only programme in Greece dedicated exclusively to this discipline. Developed through a collaboration between the Department of Molecular Biology & Genetics and PHARMATHEN, the programme aims to train both professionals already employed at the company and new scientists aspiring to build careers in this sector, either in Greece or internationally.
The programme is offered on a full-time basis.
Graduates who successfully complete the PGMP "Pharmaceutical Biotechnology" are also eligible to apply for admission to the Doctoral Programme of the Department of Molecular Biology & Genetics, subject to acceptance.
