PGMP "Pharmaceutical Biotechnology"

Registration - Institutional Account

The Secretariat of the Department publishes the results of the evaluation of prospective postgraduate students on the website of the Department of Molecular Biology & Genetics, in compliance with current data protection regulations. It informs the candidates, registers the successful ones in the postgraduate student registry of the Department and the University and sends them the Internal Rules and Regulations of the Programme and the University, the Internal Regulation, the Code of Academic Ethic and any other relevant documents deemed necessary by the Department.

Successful candidates are required to confirm in writing within a specified period, as defined in the internal regulations of the Professional Post-Graduate Master's Programme (PGMP), whether they accept a) their registration in the PGMP and b) the Internal Regulation of the University and the Regulation of the PGMP they received, along with the terms of operation of the programme. Registration is considered complete when all required documentation is submitted. The places of successful candidates who do not register on time will be filled by alternate candidates, according to the order of success, as shown in the list of alternates.

Upon registration in the PGMP, the student acquires an institutional account, which provides access to all the information systems of Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH). The institutional account details (username and password) are sent by the University’s IT department. Postgraduate students are informed about how to receive their institutional account details during registration. These account details are required for accessing the University’s electronic secretary system (students.duth.gr).

Additionally, upon registration, each student receives electronic material containing all necessary information for following the programme and is informed about their Academic Advisor (see Academic Advisor section).

At the start of the first semester, an orientation for incoming students is organised, which includes brief presentations on:

  • The University and the Department
  • The Programme of Study and the Regulation of Studies for the PGMP
  • The international dimension of studies at DUTH (European University EMERGE, ERASMUS programs, EUROPE direct, other international collaborations of the Department)
  • της βιβλιοθήκης – Κέντρου Πληροφόρησης  του ΔΠΘ
  • The DUTH Counseling and Psychological Support Center
  • Student group activities at the University & Department

The orientation includes an introductory seminar aimed at facilitating the successful student journey and effectively preparing incoming postgraduate students to meet the requirements of the PGMP. The initial briefing is done in person during the orientation. Postgraduate students are also informed on how to write scientific papers and search for bibliographic sources in libraries, academic services and online sources. Special attention is given to preparing working students to facilitate their academic journey.

During the orientation, a tour of the Department’s facilities (classrooms, lecture halls, the secretariat, library, computer rooms, etc.) is conducted, followed by a meeting where postgraduate students meet their Academic Advisor.

Finally, since postgraduate students may hold degrees in different disciplines (mainly Life Sciences and Chemistry), a preparatory learning cycle is offered before the start of the courses to help them acquire a common foundation. The learning cycle has two directions: Life Sciences and Chemistry, and each student follows the path that complements their undergraduate degree.
