Quality Policy

The Department of Molecular Biology & Genetics in collaboration with the Quality Assurance Unit of DUTH and the relevant services of the institution, has aligned the Quality Policy of its Undergraduate Programmes, Master’s Programmes and Doctoral Programmes with the overall Quality Policy of DUTH.

Specifically, the Professional Postgraduate Master's Programme (PGMP) "Pharmaceutical Biotechnology" is an integral part of DUTH’s strategic planning, which aims to advance knowledge, develop research and the arts, address the educational, research, social, cultural and developmental needs of the country, and ensure a high-level specialization of graduates in both theoretical and applied fields, covering specific thematic areas or subfields of the Department's undergraduate programmes.

The PGMP "Pharmaceutical Biotechnology" is committed to implementing a quality policy that supports the academic identity and direction of the programme, advances its purpose and subject matter, implements its strategic objectives, defines the means and methods for achieving them, and aims for continuous improvement.

- Designs, modifies and improves its syllabus with transparency and participation from all stakeholders to ensure that it:

    • Meets current scientific requirements and educational needs.
    • Achieves the learning outcomes and qualifications as outlined in the course descriptions and offers qualifications according to the European Higher Education Qualifications Framework.
    • Promotes scientific knowledge and research in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology.
    • Provides comprehensive education to postgraduate students, equipping them with knowledge, skills, competencies and attitudes related to:

      (a) the design, production and evaluation of biological therapeutic approaches,
      (b) current trends and developments in pharmaceutical biotechnology, and
      (c) national and European legislation (regulatory framework) concerning bioethics, intellectual property and safety in the field of pharmaceutical biotechnology. This will enable them to work in interdisciplinary teams and in public or private organizations, institutions, companies and agencies in the field of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology.

- Implements quality procedures in teaching, fully aligned with the quality policies of the Department and the Institution:

    • Selecting appropriate instructors according to the relevant legislation.
    • Assessing teaching effectiveness through student evaluations on a semester basis.
    • Participating in internal evaluation processes coordinated by DUTH's Quality Assurance Unit.
    • Using a variety of teaching methods and techniques, focusing on student-centered approaches.
    • Monitoring the academic progress and development of students throughout their studies.
    • Encouraging students to write articles, publish in reputable medical journals and present at national and international conferences.
    • Ensuring the availability of useful and accessible learning resources for students.
    • Implementing the Academic Advisor System.
    • Participating in the processes outlined in the DUTH Excellence in Teaching Award Regulation.
    • Fostering an environment of respect, collaboration, communication and participation from all involved parties, applying best practices to resolve any issues, as outlined in the Complaint and Appeal Management Regulation.

- Ensures the quality (both in terms of quantity and impact) of the research work of academic staff:

    • Promoting the external visibility of the research, fostering collaborations within the institution and with other universities in Greece and abroad.
    • Encouraging faculty participation in international and national conferences, research programmes, and international collaborations.
    • Supporting their international mobility.
    • Seeking alternative sources of funding (such as participation in programmes, sponsorships, donations, etc.).
    • Encouraging high-level research that is published and recognized internationally.

- Ensures the connection between teaching and research.

 Keeps track of graduates’ employment outcomes and provides students with information regarding career opportunities beyond traditional career paths.

 Based on available resources (teaching staff and infrastructure), determines the appropriate annual student intake to ensure high-quality education for all students.

 Takes responsibility for quality at all levels of the programme’s operation, while also implementing appropriate actions for continuous improvement.

 Publishes the Programme’s Quality Assurance Policy on the website and communicates it to all stakeholders.

 Ensures the Programme’s website is continuously updated, serving as a valid source of information for students.
