Academic Studies Advisor

The Academic Studies Advisor (ASA) of a postgraduate student (PGS) is appointed upon enrolment and remains the same throughout the duration of the student’s studies. The ASA is a member of the teaching staff who guides and supports PGS during their academic journey. The ASA has an advisory role concerning the academic progression of the PGS. They are available for ad hoc meetings to provide assistance and, when necessary, refer the student to specialists (e.g. the Counselling and Psychological Support Centre) in cases of personal issues affecting their studies. The ASA monitors the progress of the PGS and encourages them to achieve their professional goals to the best of their ability.

Contacting the Academic Studies Advisor

The ASA maintains a list of the phone numbers and institutional e-mail addresses of the students they are responsible as part of their duties and regulates communication with them (either in person, by telephone or online). The Department Secretariat shall post a table of the Academic Advisors’ working hours on the Department’s website. ASA meetings with students are held both individually and in groups. The first meeting shall take place within one month of their enrolment. One-on-one meetings with each student are held upon the student’s request. The content of these discussions is confidential and the student's personal data is protected by the ASA. The ASA will be notified of the student’s personal data (e.g. detailed grades) only with the student’s written consent. Discussions with the ASA are of a purely advisory nature and in no way binding. The decisions made by students regarding their academic career and any specific academic issues are entirely their own and are clearly their choice.

All relevant information is provided in the Academic Studies Advisor Regulations.
